Solar battery list prices, October 2026

These are the prices public Australian shop pages show for the battery hardware on its own, read on 28 October 2026: no installation, no inverter unless the unit has one built in, and no rebate taken off. Installers buy below these and sell above them, but list is the one number anyone can check, and it is the anchor for the battery line on a quote. Battery prices move faster than panel prices: the Sungrow SBR096 page shows $8,496 struck through to $7,989, and two of the nine units are out of stock on their pages, which is itself a signal about demand since the federal discount began.

The GoodWe ESA module is the storage pack for an all-in-one unit whose inverter and BMS sit in the ESA head unit, which the list does not price, so its per-kWh figure is for the cells alone and is not comparable with the complete units. Enphase does not publish an Australian unit price for the IQ Battery 5P (the GStore page says call for price), SolarEdge and AlphaESS units were not found on a public list with a price, and Sungrow SBR modules were not on the wholesale list we read, so the Sungrow figure is a retail shop price. Where a page shows ex GST, the inc GST column adds 10 per cent.

What each system costs at list after the federal discount

A quote is for a working battery, not a module, so this table assembles the modular units into the sizes people actually buy and takes off the federal Cheaper Home Batteries discount at $39 per certificate (6.8 STCs per usable kWh on the first 14 kWh, 60 per cent of that from 14 to 28 kWh). At list, before installation, the cheapest storage is BYD Battery-Box Premium LVL 15.4 at $486 per usable kWh after the discount and the dearest is Tesla Powerwall 3 with Backup Gateway at $745. The Powerwall 3 carries its own 10 kW inverter, so it is the only row that does not also need a hybrid inverter ($3,794 to $5,609 at list for a Fronius GEN24 Plus on the inverter prices page) or a compatible one already on the wall.

The federal battery discount by size, $39 per STC

The discount is set by usable capacity, not price, so it is worth the same on a cheap battery as a dear one: $2,652 on 10 kWh and $3,549 on 13.5 kWh at $39 per certificate. Above 14 kWh each extra kWh earns 60 per cent of the factor, so the per-kWh value falls; a 28 kWh system earns 152 certificates ($5,928). The factor steps down from 6.8 to 5.7 on 1 January 2027, which cuts the 13.5 kWh discount to $2,964. The installer claims the certificates and shows the discount as a line on the quote; if it is missing or valued well below the figures here, ask. Full rules and the per-state schemes are on the rebates pages and the battery calculator works your own size.

Installed and after-rebate figures from dated guides

Two dated Australian guides publish installed or after-rebate figures that can be set against the list prices above. Why Solar's tracker (quotes checked 30 September 2026) puts a Powerwall 3 installed at $15,000 to $17,000 before the rebate, which is $1,400 to $3,400 above the $13,600 list price with Gateway: that gap is the installation, the switchboard work, the margin and the warranty service, and it sits with Marshall Solar's own note that installation runs from around $2,200 and SolarQuotes' assumed $3,000. SolarQuotes (12 May 2026) lists after-rebate hardware prices, so its $10,000 for a Powerwall 3 with Gateway compares with our $10,051 net at list; the difference is five months of price movement and the retailer the figure came from.

What installed adds to the list price

Between the list price and the installed price sit the hybrid inverter or the battery's own inverter and gateway, the DC or AC cabling and isolators, a switchboard change where backup circuits are wanted, the network application, a day of labour for a licensed electrician with battery endorsement, the installer's margin and the 10-year warranty they will service. Marshall Solar's from around $2,200 and SolarQuotes' assumed $3,000 bracket a straightforward wall-mount next to the switchboard; a long cable run, a three-phase home or a backup gateway on a separate wall push it higher. The solar with battery page prices the whole package against solar alone, and the quote check reads a quote against the index.

State battery support, in brief

On top of the federal discount, these state schemes are open for batteries: NSW: Home Energy Saver zero-interest loan, Zero-interest loan of at least $2,000 and up to $15,000 per property, repayable over up to 10 years, for rooftop solar, batteries, insulation, heating and cooling and other eligible upgrades (NSW rebates). WA: WA Residential Battery Scheme rebate, Up to $1,300 for Synergy customers; up to $3,800 for Horizon Power customers (maximums based on 10 kWh of usable capacity) (WA rebates). WA: WA Residential Battery Scheme no-interest loan, Up to $10,000, no interest, repayment periods up to 10 years; administered by Plenti (WA rebates). ACT: Sustainable Household Scheme (SHS) loan, Loan of $2,000 to $20,000 for new applicants from 1 July 2026 (households approved before 1 July 2026 keep a $15,000 lifetime cap); 3% interest, no establishment or account fees, up to 10 years, no early repayment penalty; provider Brighte (ACT rebates). Closed schemes (Victoria's battery loan, Queensland's Battery Booster, South Australia's Home Battery Scheme, the NT grant) are recorded on each state page so a quote that still mentions one can be checked.

Battery brand guides

Each brand page covers chemistry, warranty terms, inverter compatibility and when the unit is the right choice: Tesla, Sungrow, BYD, GoodWe, Enphase, AlphaESS, SolarEdge. For the inverter side, the inverter prices page lists the hybrid units these batteries pair with.

Battery price questions

How much does a Tesla Powerwall 3 cost in Australia?

$13,600 inc GST at list with the Backup Gateway (Marshall Solar, October 2025 page; GStore lists the battery alone at $13,595), supply only. The federal discount on its 13.5 kWh is $3,549 at $39 per STC, so $10,051 net before installation; installed quotes in the Why Solar tracker run $15,000 to $17,000 before the discount.

How much is a Sungrow SBR battery?

$7,989 inc GST for the 9.6 kWh SBR096 on a public retail page (October 2026, down from $8,496), modules only; it needs a Sungrow SH hybrid inverter. The federal discount on 9.6 kWh is $2,535, so $5,454 net at list, $568 per usable kWh. SolarQuotes lists the 16 kWh at $9,300 and the 25.6 kWh at $14,000 after the rebate (May 2026).

How much does an Enphase battery cost?

No Australian list price is published for the IQ Battery 5P (4.96 kWh usable, 15-year warranty; the GStore page says call for price). The Why Solar tracker puts an Enphase IQ Battery 10T (10.08 kWh) installed at $14,000 to $15,000 before the federal discount, the dearest per kWh in its table, against $2,652 of federal discount.

How much is the federal battery rebate on a 10 kWh battery?

$2,652 at $39 per certificate: 10 kWh x 6.8 = 68 STCs. A 13.5 kWh battery earns $3,549 and 14 kWh $3,705; above 14 kWh each extra kWh earns 60 per cent of the factor. The factor drops to 5.7 on 1 January 2027.

What does a solar battery cost per kWh?

$486 to $745 per usable kWh at list after the federal discount for the six systems worked above (supply only), and $739 to $1,007 before it. Installed, SolarQuotes' table runs $550 to $1,080 per kWh after the rebate with $3,000 of installation assumed (May 2026).

How much does battery installation cost?

From around $2,200 for a Powerwall 3 per the Marshall Solar page, and SolarQuotes assumes $3,000 in its per-kWh table; a modular battery also needs a hybrid inverter ($3,794 to $5,609 at list for a Fronius GEN24 Plus) unless a compatible one is already installed.

Is a BYD Battery-Box cheaper than a Powerwall?

At list, yes per kWh for the hardware: BYD HVM modules are $2,391 inc GST each (2.76 kWh), so an 11 kWh stack is $9,566 before its control unit, $866 per kWh against the Powerwall 3's $1,007. The BYD then needs a hybrid inverter; the Powerwall has one built in, which closes most of the gap on a new install.
