Solar inverter price list, October 2026

These are retail list prices published by two Australian electrical supply sites, read on 27 October 2026: the price a licensed installer or a cash buyer sees before any volume discount, ex GST as published and with GST added in the next column. They are supply-only prices for the unit. No installer sells at list, but list is the one public number, and it is the right anchor for the inverter line on a quote. The cheapest mainstream single-phase 5 kW unit on a public list is the Sungrow SG5.0RS at $1,199; the Fronius Primo GEN24 5.0 is $2,688, a gap of $1,489 for the same AC rating.

The same Greentech list carries clearance-priced three-phase units (Huawei 8 kW three-phase at $500 ex GST, Huawei 10 kW three-phase at $600 ex GST) that look like end-of-line stock; they are left out of the table and should not be read as the going rate. No public Australian list price was found for GoodWe DNS G3 or EH, Sungrow SG10RT or SH5.0RS, Growatt, SolarEdge optimisers, Tigo optimisers or Enphase IQ8 microinverters, so those are not priced here rather than guessed.

Inverter prices by type

Grouped by what the unit does. The spread inside each row is brand, not capability: a Sofar three-phase 5 kW unit lists at $874 ex GST and a Fronius Symo GEN24 5.0 at $2,948, and both are approved for the same job.

What three phase, hybrid and brand add

Three phase. Read off the same brand and size, the three-phase premium is $504 ex GST on a 5 kW Fronius string unit (Symo GEN24 5.0 SC $2,948 against Primo GEN24 5.0 SC $2,444), $375 on the 5 kW hybrids and $300 on the 10 kW hybrids. Installed, the quoted difference runs to $375 to $1,500 once the extra cabling and the network application are in; the three-phase solar page has the full case.

Hybrid. Going battery ready costs $1,005 ex GST on a 5 kW single-phase Fronius (Primo GEN24 5.0 Plus SC $3,449 against the 5.0 SC $2,444), $876 on the three-phase 5 kW pair and $1,275 at 10 kW three phase. That is less than the labour and the second unit of a later swap, which is why the inverter replacement page prices the hybrid route; the solar with battery page carries the battery side.

Brand. At 5 kW single phase the gap between the cheapest mainstream list price and Fronius is $1,354 ex GST ($1,489 with GST). SolarQuotes puts the premium-brand inverter premium at about $1,500 over a budget unit on an installed quote (12 October 2026), which sits inside that list gap once margin is added. What the extra buys is in the Fronius and Sungrow brand guides.

The inverter share of a 6.6 kW quote in each capital

Inverter list prices are national: freight on a 20 kg box is a small part of the price, so a Primo GEN24 5.0 costs the same in Perth as in Sydney. What changes by city is the whole-system offer it sits inside, so the inverter is a bigger share of a Perth quote than a Darwin one. At the standard 6.6 kW offer in October 2026, a Sungrow SG5.0RS at list is 23 per cent of the Perth price ($5,294) and 12 per cent of the Darwin price ($10,250); a Fronius Primo GEN24 5.0 at list is 51 per cent of the Perth offer, which is why a Fronius quote in Perth lands at the premium end ($6,522) rather than the standard one.

Source: Solar Choice Price Index, October 2026, standard and premium installer offers after STCs. Basis of each figure: 3, 5 and 10 kW cells are published by Solar Choice; 6.6 kW and 8 kW are interpolated and 13 kW and 20 kW scaled by Solar Scorecard at the same dollars per watt (derived); cities Solar Choice does not index use the nearest indexed capital. Where our own quotes series holds ten or more checks for a city and size, that cell is replaced by the quotes median and marked with its count.

What installed adds to the list price

An installed inverter price has four parts on top of the list price: the installer's margin on hardware, which also funds the warranty claim they will handle for you; the AC isolator, conduit and cable; the labour, which on a new system is folded into the one day on site (8 to 24 hours elapsed for 6.6 kW per Finder, 24 September 2026); and the network application and metering. Electrician charge-out rates run $80 to $150 an hour nationally (Perth from $84, Sydney from $92, Hobart from $72) against an award floor of about $32.19 an hour for a licensed grade 5 electrician, so the labour on the inverter alone is a few hundred dollars, not a few thousand. Where a quote itemises the inverter at more than $3,488 for a 5 kW single-phase string unit, ask which model and compare it with the list above; the quote check does the whole-system comparison.

Enphase and optimisers: priced per system, not per unit

Enphase sells through its distributor to installers and publishes no Australian per-unit price; the one public, dated figure is a whole-system estimate from Why Solar (30 September 2026) of $2,500 to $4,000 for microinverters against $1,000 to $2,000 for a string inverter on a residential system, a difference of $1,500 to $2,000. On a 6.6 kW system that is 15 to 16 IQ8 units in place of one string inverter, each with a 25-year warranty against 5 to 10 years on the string units above. The Enphase guide covers when the per-panel route earns that premium (shading, multiple roof faces, staged expansion) and when it does not.

Inverter price questions

How much does a Fronius Primo inverter cost in Australia?

$2,144 to $3,134 with GST at list for the Primo GEN24 SC range (3.0 to 6.0 kW) on an Australian supply site in October 2026; the 5.0 SC is $2,688. The battery-ready Primo GEN24 Plus runs $3,794 (5.0) to $5,609 (10.0). Installed, add margin, balance of system and a share of the day's labour.

How much does a Sungrow inverter cost?

$1,199 with GST at list for the SG5.0RS 5 kW single-phase string inverter, the cheapest mainstream unit on a public Australian list, with a 10-year warranty. No public list price was found for the SG10RT three-phase or SH5.0RS hybrid.

How much does an Enphase microinverter system cost?

$2,500 to $4,000 for the microinverters on a residential system against $1,000 to $2,000 for a string inverter, the one public dated Australian estimate, so budget $1,500 to $2,000 more than a string system for the 15 to 16 IQ8 units a 6.6 kW array needs. Enphase publishes no Australian per-unit price.

How much more is a three-phase inverter?

$504 ex GST at list for a 5 kW Fronius string unit (Symo GEN24 5.0 SC against Primo GEN24 5.0 SC) and $300 for the 10 kW hybrids; installed, quoted differences run $375 to $1,500. The cheapest three-phase unit on the list is a Sofar 5 kW at $961 with GST.

How much is a hybrid inverter?

$3,794 to $5,939 with GST at list for Fronius GEN24 Plus units from 5 kW single phase to 10 kW three phase in October 2026. The hybrid premium over the same brand's string unit is $1,106 with GST at 5 kW single phase.

What should the inverter line on a solar quote be?

Close to the list price plus margin: $1,199 to $2,688 with GST for a 5 kW single-phase string unit, $961 to $4,536 for three phase, $3,794 to $5,939 for a hybrid. A line well above $3,488 for a string unit needs a model number beside it.

Are inverter prices different in Perth, Sydney or Melbourne?

$0 difference at list: the unit is priced nationally and freight is a small part of it. The whole-system offer differs, so a Sungrow SG5.0RS at list is 23 per cent of the standard 6.6 kW offer in Perth ($5,294), 19 per cent in Sydney ($6,170) and 12 per cent in Darwin ($10,250).
