The hardware price is before installation, before any hybrid inverter the battery needs and before the federal Cheaper Home Batteries discount; the discount is set by usable capacity at $39 per certificate, so it is the same whoever installs it.

Federal discount on each BYD size: 5.12 to 22.08 kWh
The federal discount for every BYD size, at $39 per certificate and the 6.8 factor that applies to installs to 31 December 2026. The installer claims the certificates and shows the discount as a line on the quote. From 1 January 2027 the factor drops to 5.7, which is the last column.

Above 14 kWh each extra kilowatt-hour earns 60 per cent of the factor and above 28 kWh 15 per cent, so the per-kWh value falls on the larger stacks. BYD Battery-Box warranty terms
10 years, with at least 70 per cent of usable capacity at the end of it. Cycles or throughput: 70 per cent of usable energy for ten years or the minimum throughput, whichever comes first: 34.15 MWh on the HVM 11.0, 42.69 MWh on the HVM 13.8. Warranty starts on the seller's invoice date to the original buyer. The number that matters on a quote is the retention percentage and the throughput cap together: a battery cycled once a day for ten years delivers about 19 MWh from 5.12 kWh, which is the scale the throughput caps are set at.
What a BYD Battery-Box pairs with
Lithium iron phosphate (LFP); HVS 2.56 kWh and HVM 2.76 kWh high-voltage modules, LVL low-voltage units. DC-coupled high-voltage battery (HVS, HVM) for a compatible hybrid inverter; LVL is 48 V low-voltage.
BYD makes no inverter. The HV Battery-Box runs on a hybrid inverter from BYD's compatibility list (Fronius GEN24 Plus, SMA, GoodWe, Sungrow and others publish their pairings), so a BYD quote is always battery plus a named hybrid inverter or a compatible one already on the wall.

BYD prices the hardware nationally, and the federal discount is the same in every state, so what changes by city is the solar system the battery sits with and the state support.
