Where Victoria's 3,230 plans sit

Each of the 3,230 Victoria plans is counted once at its highest retailer-paid rate (fit_max_c), whether that rate is unconditional, capped or paid only in a window; government scheme rates are excluded. 252 of the 3,230 plans pay nothing for exports, 2,508 pay under 2c, and 190 pay 10c or more, nearly all of them time-window or battery plans. The median unconditional rate is 1c, the same as the all-plan median for Victoria.

Every retailer's best plan in Victoria, ranked

One row per retailer brand: its plan with the highest retailer-paid rate in Victoria, ranked by that rate. 10 of the 26 rows are conditional plans, labelled with the condition from the record; a window is the hours the top rate applies. Usage rates are the first general rate in the record (the peak rate on a time-of-use plan) and supply charges are the daily charge; Victorian records (plan IDs ending @VEC) publish these two figures excluding GST, as the label says, and the feed-in rate is unaffected. Plan data read 27 October 2026.

Best unconditional plan per retailer in Victoria

1,903 of the 3,230 plans carry no condition in their record: no cap, no step, no battery, VPP, bundle or membership requirement and no negative rate. This table takes the highest unconditional rate of each of the 22 Victoria retailers that have one, breaking ties on the lowest usage rate. A time window is not treated as a condition, and 220 of the 1,903 unconditional Victoria plans carry one, so the hours column still matters: a rate paid 17:00 to 21:00 every day pays nothing on midday exports.

By distributor in Victoria

The median is 1c in every one of the five Victorian distribution zones, so the feed-in tariff does not change with the network; the usage rates and supply charges in the tables above do, which is why the same retailer plan appears with different usage figures in different zones.

The government benchmark in Victoria

Victoria has had no minimum feed-in tariff since 1 July 2025. The Essential Services Commission states: "The Essential Services Commission no longer sets minimum feed-in tariffs, following an amendment to the Electricity Industry Act 2000." and "From 1 July, electricity retailers may set their own feed-in tariffs. However, these cannot be below zero ($0.00) cents per kWh." (ESC minimum feed-in tariff page, read 27 October 2026). A Victorian retailer can therefore pay 0c, and 252 of the 3,230 Victorian plans do.

What the rate is worth on a Melbourne 6.6 kW system

A 6.6 kW system in Melbourne makes about 8,672 kWh a year (1,314 kWh per kW from the Clean Energy Council yield table for Melbourne, multiplied by 6.6). At 35 per cent self-consumption, the assumption behind every saving figure on this site, 5,637 kWh leaves a Melbourne roof for the grid, so each 1c of Victoria feed-in tariff is worth about $56 a year.

Annual feed-in income on 5,637 kWh of exports from a Melbourne 6.6 kW system, October 2026
RateArithmeticA year
Median (1c)5,637 kWh x 1c$56
Best unconditional (15c, AGL, window only)5,637 kWh x 15c$846 only if every exported kWh fell in the window
Best unconditional paid at all hours (2c, Powershop)5,637 kWh x 2c$113

The 15c figure is an upper bound: AGL pays it only 17:00 to 21:00 every day, and a fixed rooftop array sends most of its export out before that window opens. The usage rate on the same plan decides whether the extra $790 between the Victoria median and the best rate survives: the hub page works through two plans in one zone, and the payback calculator takes your own rates. For the cost side, see solar panel costs and is solar worth it in Victoria.

Read the whole plan, not the headline rate

The feed-in figure in a retailer's advertising is usually the top of a structure, and the 3,230 Victoria records read 27 October 2026 show three kinds of it.

  • Caps. 124 Victoria plans pay their top rate only on the first few kWh exported each day (the CDR field up_to_kwh_per_day), then drop to a lower step. The most common cap is 8 kWh a day (104 plans), used by ENGIE, EnergyAustralia and Origin Energy. Origin and AGL, which publish 64 of the 124 capped Victoria plans, describe the cap as a daily limit averaged across the billing period. A Melbourne 6.6 kW system exporting 5,637 kWh a year averages 15.4 kWh a day, so an 8 kWh cap bites on most spring and summer days.
  • Time windows. 450 Victoria plans pay their top rate only in stated hours, most often late afternoon and evening, and a lower rate or 0c at other times. In Victoria the window column above carries hours for 7 of the 26 ranked retailers; the exports that fall outside those hours earn the other rate.
  • Negative rates. No Victoria plan in the data publishes a negative rate; in South Australia iO Energy does, which is why that state's page carries a warning.
  • Wholesale estimates. No Victoria plan in the data publishes a wholesale pass-through estimate in place of a fixed rate.
  • Export credits booked as incentives. 206 plans carry an export credit in the incentives part of the record instead of the feed-in field, for example GloBird Energy's Super Export Credit of 10c on the first 15 kWh exported between 6pm and 9pm. The feed-in figure for those 206 Victoria plans understates what they can pay; the summary file lists the incentive text.

Victoria feed-in tariff questions

What is the best solar feed-in tariff in Victoria in October 2026?

15c is the best unconditional rate, from AGL on Residential Three for Free, paid 17:00 to 21:00 every day. The best conditional rate in Victoria is 30c from Flow Power (Happy Hour Battery + Solar + EV: Variable Prices (estimate)), which requires: stepped or capped rate; battery required.

What is the average feed-in tariff in Victoria?

1c is the median best rate across the 3,230 residential plans in Victoria on 27 October 2026; the median among unconditional plans is 1c. 252 plans pay 0c and 190 pay 10c or more.

How much is the feed-in tariff worth on a 6.6 kW system in Melbourne?

$56 a year at the Victoria median of 1c, on 5,637 kWh of exports from a Melbourne system that makes 8,672 kWh at 35 per cent self-consumption. Each extra 1c adds about $56 in Melbourne; at 15c the income would be $846 if every exported kWh fell inside the plan's window, which it will not.

Is there a minimum feed-in tariff in Victoria?

0c is the only floor: Victoria has had no minimum feed-in tariff since 1 July 2025, and the Essential Services Commission says retailers may set their own rate but not below zero. 252 Victorian plans pay 0c.

Which retailers pay the highest unconditional feed-in tariff in Victoria?

15c from AGL is the highest unconditional rate in Victoria, then Indigo Power at 6c, GloBird Energy at 3c. 22 of the 26 retailers in Victoria publish at least one unconditional plan.

Do Victorian feed-in tariffs include GST?

No GST applies to a household feed-in credit, and the Victorian records print the feed-in rate as the fact sheet shows it. The usage rates and supply charges in Victorian CDR records are the fact sheet figures divided by 1.1, so they exclude GST; multiply by 1.1 to compare with a bill.
