The federal STC discount in Queensland: who qualifies
Everyone with a new rooftop system up to 100 kW qualifies, because the Clean Energy Regulator calculates the entitlement from the system alone: kilowatts times the zone rating times the deeming period, rounded down. There is no income test, no property value cap and no application by the household; the installer takes the certificates and the discount comes off the quote. Brisbane is in Zone 3 (rating 1.382), so a 6.6 kW system installed in 2026 earns 45 certificates, $1,755 at $39 each, which is already off the $6,756 to $8,020 installer offers on this site. From 1 January 2027 the deeming period drops from 5 to 4 years and the same system earns 36 certificates, $1,404, a cut of $351; the January 2027 guide has every capital.
The Queensland schemes: who qualifies, who does not
Queensland has no open scheme for owner-occupiers. Supercharged Solar for Renters pays landlords up to $3,500 per rental property: an individual owner, not an owner-occupier, of a Class 1a dwelling rented for $1,000 a week or less, individually metered, with no existing solar, a current tenancy, the tenant's consent and a system of at least 3 kW, with conditional approval before installation. Battery Booster, which paid $3,000 or $4,000 on a means test, closed to new applications on 8 May 2024 and has not reopened; Queensland households use the federal battery discount instead.
| Scheme | Status | Who | Income test | Property value | Amount |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Battery Booster program | closed | owner-occupiers | Was means tested (see amount) | none stated | Was $3,000 (combined taxable income $180,000 or less) or $4,000 (taxable income under $66,667) for a battery of 6 kWh or more with at least 5 kW of solar |
| Supercharged Solar for Renters | open | landlords | none stated | none stated | Up to $3,500 per rental property to install rooftop solar |
The federal battery discount in Queensland: who qualifies
Any household, small business or community facility with one new battery per premises: it must be on the CEC approved list, between 5 and 100 kWh nominal, installed by an SAA-accredited installer with battery endorsement on a VPP-capable inverter, with a new or existing solar system of no more than 100 kW. There is no income test and no property value cap. The discount is 6.8 certificates per usable kWh for the first 14 kWh, 68 certificates and $2,652 on 10 kWh at $39, taken off the quote by the installer; from 1 January 2027 the factor drops to 5.7 and 10 kWh earns $2,223. Whether the battery is worth it in Queensland at that discount is worked through on the battery guide.
What an eligible household gets in Brisbane
$6,756 to $8,020 is the 6.6 kW price range in Brisbane after the $1,755 STC discount, standard and premium installer offers. A landlord claiming the Queensland rebate takes up to $3,500 off that range; owner-occupiers hold their quote against the range as it is. The Brisbane solar cost page has every size and the quote check scores a quote against it.
If you are not eligible
An owner-occupier, or a landlord whose property is rented for more than $1,000 a week, already has solar or is not individually metered: no Queensland scheme. The STC discount and the federal battery discount apply to every household, and Battery Booster is not coming back on any page read.
Closed schemes still asked about: Battery Booster program (Closed to new conditional approval applications on 8 May 2024).
Queensland eligibility questions
Who is eligible for the solar rebate in Queensland?
$1,755 in federal STCs on a 6.6 kW system in Brisbane goes to any household installing a new system up to 100 kW, with no income test. Queensland adds up to $3,500 for landlords of an eligible rental; owner-occupiers get the federal discounts only.
Is there an income test for the solar rebate in Queensland?
$1,000 a week in rent is the only money test in Queensland, on the property rather than the landlord, for Supercharged Solar for Renters; the closed Battery Booster was means tested at $180,000. The federal STC and battery discounts have no income test.
Can renters get the solar rebate in Queensland?
$3,500 is the Queensland rebate for solar on a rental, claimed by the landlord, not the tenant, with the tenant's consent; the tenant gets the solar power. No scheme pays a renter directly.
How much is the solar rebate in Queensland in 2026?
$1,755 on 6.6 kW in Brisbane from the federal STC discount (45 certificates at $39), plus up to $3,500 for a landlord; a 10 kWh battery earns another $2,652. On 1 January 2027 the STC part falls by $351.
Do pensioners get a solar rebate in Queensland?
$1,755 in STCs on 6.6 kW in Brisbane and the federal battery discount are what a Queensland pensioner household gets, the same as any other household; no open Queensland scheme is pension-based.
Do I apply for the solar rebate in Queensland or does the installer?
45 certificates on a 6.6 kW system are assigned to the installer, who applies the discount on the quote; the household signs the assignment form and does not deal with the Clean Energy Regulator. The landlord applies for Supercharged Solar for Renters and must hold conditional approval before the system goes in.
